How did someone end up working on this asylum?
PublicThe story of how every member ended up working on Dating Killmulator is quite interesting.
NÚRIA AND MONTSE
I met Núria one month before classes started. We were both studying the same university degree, and we just happened to show up on the same day, at the same time, to enroll. I thought she was wearing a cool outfit. She thought my brother and I looked creepy as fuck.
I didn’t see her again until the very first day of class. We were both supposed to go to the top floor for an initiation ceremony. I got confused and went straight to the classroom instead. When I arrived, Núria was there too, equally confused and waiting for someone to show up.
She asked me if it was the right room. I confidently said yes.
I was wrong.
When we both realized it wasn’t the right place, we sprinted upstairs and made it just before the whole thing began. We didn’t interact much again for the next few months.
During that time, I also met Montse. She sat a couple of seats away from me in class. I assumed she was a K-pop fan because she wore awesome black clothes with belts and accessories. We eventually ended up working together on a project for a teacher called Paco, whom you might recognize from his little easter egg hidden in the bus-stop background.
During this time, I also started going every morning to practice on the university computers. Since all our classes were in the afternoon, the labs were completely empty. I loved it — I’d spend hours coding or trying out 3D modeling. It was also a great excuse to get out of the house and have some time for myself.
Eventually, Núria also began showing up there in the mornings, though I don’t quite remember why. At the time, she was dating a — let’s call him this — “perfectly normal guy” from our class. I remember that one of our very first conversations was actually about her relationship. She eventually broke up with him after getting the ick, but I’ll let her be the one to tell that story.
I'm the villain in that story guys. - Núria
After that, we started talking basically every day.
I look back on our first year of university with so much affection.
If you’re familiar with Dating Killmulator, you might have already heard of the countless disasters surrounding it. Most of those chaotic moments happened during our second year — including our final project.
At the time, I was in a group with Montse and a couple of classmates, and we ended up creating our first real game under Coolom Games: Midlander.
Meanwhile, Núria was making her own otome game with another classmate.
That classmate… didn’t do shit. So I basically stepped in, and suddenly I found myself helping develop an otome. At first, Núria handled all the writing, but I joined in — and just for fun, I started adding stupid jokes whenever she read the script to me. She thought it was hilarious, and we ended up rewriting a ton of stuff together to make it funnier.
This period of our lives is also absolutely packed with drama, but I’m not getting into that. (Sorry folks!)
It looks awful but it was my first time designing these many characters at once. As you can see one resembles Cain and another one resembles Abel. I do have a type. - Núria
Time passed, and the second (and final) year of university was coming to an end. Montse and I decided to continue studying together for a university degree, while Núria quit to go get a big-boy job. I really wanted to keep working with her, so we started Dating Killmulator.
There’s a lot to unpack from this stage — definitely enough for future posts — but the short version is: Dating Killmulator somehow got made. Miraculously.
Montse joined around Episode 4 to fill a very obvious gap in my… let’s call it divinely awful UI. It only took her one month to fix everything.
JÚLIA OLIVELLA (aka. Conill Màgic)
You might know Júlia for her awesome in-game illustrations.
How did we meet her? Through a local artist meetup.
We all live in a small region of Catalonia called Osona. One day, Núria found out about a thing local artists were doing called “Drink and Draw.” Basically, everyone gathered around a table in a café, drinking and sketching around different themes. I ended up tagging along to keep Núria company — and, let’s be honest, mostly for the drinking and chatting.
These meetups were co-created by Júlia. She always brought a ton of fun and good energy to every session. One day — I don’t even remember why — we ended up talking about Dating Killmulator. She played it and… she loved it (Florianer for life).
I remember Núria talking with her about collaborating someday, and then one day… it just happened. Her first appearance was in the D&D episode, and god, did we adore her drawings. We immediately started talking about working together more often — and somehow, she ended up being part of every single episode.
ÀSTER AND ARNAU
You might know Arnau as the guy who bullies me in TikToks that somehow get 12k views (at the time of writing this post), and Àster (aka Theseus) as the guy who falls for every single piece of ragebait I throw at him in Discord.
But we originally met Arnau and Àster for a completely different reason.
About a year after we left university — and roughly one year into Dating Killmulator’s pre-production (only one episode existed at that point) — Núria got a call. It was from our old program: they were looking for someone to teach their English classes. She accepted. Around this time, I also started tagging along to most of her lessons. I was working another teaching job where I taught little kids how to program, so on some days I literally had to sprint between schools to make it on time.
During this period, Núria had a bunch of students.
Àster loved drawing, and Arnau loved being annoying.
I vibed with both of them immediately.
We asked if they wanted to do their mandatory internship with us — and they said yes.
P.S: At the time of checking this, Theseus is no longer in an internship and Arnau is joining the team as an actual employee soon!
TOPHAT AND WINEZ
Honestly, we just loved their drawings. No complicated story, no dramatic twist — just cool people from our community who love the game as much as we do. At the time of writing this post, Winez’s role still hasn’t been revealed (yes, everyone signs an NDA), so we’re excited for everyone to see it soon!
Do you want to work with us? Just keep being here — keep being your awesome self and creating cool projects. We’re always looking for new talent to collaborate with. If you’re the right fit… we’ll find you!
