The story of how Chapter 2 was conceived

Public

We made Chapter One about a week before Indie Dev Day. While we were there, I kept promising people that Chapter Two would come the following week. At that point, we had only finished Florian's first scene and a drawing minigame. There was literally nothing else done.

When asked, Núria said this:

We were liars.

This is the only picture we ever took of the stand. Our university, which funded the whole stand, was extremely pissed off at us because the only real photo had a baby-face filter. They ended up posting it anyway to promote the event.

So anyways, back to Chapter 2.

Núria and I started working on the script like 4 days before. And then we realised something. We had to go to Girocomic for the entire weekend.

For context, this was the room we stayed at.

During our stay, Núria and I decided to pull an all-nighter to write the whole chapter.

I connected my laptop to the shitty TV (pictured up top) with a small HDMI cable, and I just sat on the floor while Núria and I screamed at the Google Sheets projection.

The divorce-papers joke? That was just Núria and me being tired.

For the corpse theater, we had to reuse one of the sprites we had originally planned for the character who would end up becoming Maya, since we didn’t have time to properly design a new one.

It took us 3 hours, and by around 1 a.m. we were done. But there was still a problem: we had a fair in 7 hours. No programming was done. No translation was done.

Our solution: Núria would stay up until 4 a.m. and then wake me up so I’d have time to programm the episode, and then I would wake her up around 7 a.m. to go to the fair.

It was, by far, the worst thing we had ever done.

Translation was also done during the entire fair, with Núria having the laptop on her legs. I took a picture for prosperity.

I also asked Núria to comment on the whole situation.

It was awful. We were moody the entire day. Unai and I got into a fight over “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” It was also hard to write with these long-ass nails I had, so it made me even moodier. Would repeat.

And that’s how Chapter 2 came to be.
